Audiman Posted July 6, 2008 Report Posted July 6, 2008 Does anyone know how to remove the heater resistor pack (I'm not sure what I need to take out to get to it) I suspect it's located behind the glovebox next to the heater ? I'm not sure how to remove the glovebox - I've tried removing the felt under the glovebox. there's two screws but something is still holding the felt in place. Can someone help ? Quote
mk2vr6 Posted July 6, 2008 Report Posted July 6, 2008 open the glove box, on either side you can see the opening restrictors unclip these so the glove box opens fully, then pop it out of the hinges at the bottom, job done Quote
Albacore Posted July 7, 2008 Report Posted July 7, 2008 you are right. The resistor pack is behind the glove box on top of the heater trunking. One torque screw to replace. Quote
Audiman Posted July 9, 2008 Author Report Posted July 9, 2008 Thanks chaps, I was a bit scared of breaking something by pulling and prising etc. Managed to get it out okay. There is a knack to it - next time it'll take me 10mins.You just got to know what to pull and unclip. I tested the new resistor pack before putting in - could believe how hot the resistor pack gets - nearly de-skinned me. I'm not surprised this damn thing always fails. All 4 heater fan speed actually work ok. (The air conditioning smells like fungus though - my next project) Anyhow I took some photos and I'll post it up later. Quote
nigelbb Posted July 15, 2008 Report Posted July 15, 2008 I have just removed my failed resistor pack as I the blower now only works on setting IV, previouly I, II & III all worked but have failed one by one. Unlike another photo on this forum showing a red pack my pack is green & not so obvious to spot. I did see a couple of other posts where people couldn't actually find the thing so their vehicles may have been similar to mine. I have taken some photos but bear in mind when figuring out where your pack is that mine is a LHD. The green socket on the left with metal plate above is held in with a torx screw & the actual wire wound resistors are behind that plate & visible in the photo taken after I had removed the pack from the car. Burnie Posted November 25, 2008 Report Posted November 25, 2008 thanks really helpful. This looks like the same problem I have & could be very helpful. However when I click on the attachements I get an error saying I don't have permission to use this feature. I've emailed the forum admin using the link on that page but it has a permanent error (ie email address doesn't exist). Does anyone know how I can view your attachments ????? Quote

Mikef Posted October 19, 2010 Report Posted October 19, 2010 You know how there are some things you shouldnt start when its late and dark and raining....? I've just taken out my glovebox to check my resistor pack (yes, it is green!). But I cant get the darn thing back in! Is it a case of forcing the metal hinge pins back into the plastic holders first? The plastic pieces look very fragile to me, so I'm leaving it till tomorrow evening to fix now... I also cant see how to put that top 'flap' back in place, but will worry about that tomrrow! cheersmikef Quote
ronb Posted March 22, 2011 Report Posted March 22, 2011 I'd love to be able to see your images -- I've finally got my glove box off (2001 1.9 tdi), but can't see anything that looks like what's being described! Quote
